This is only the start - and the lackadaisical dismissal of these getting anywhere is not the right attitude to have.
Doesn't take much effort to e-mail/call/letter those involved.
Complacency is the quickest way to lose what little rights we have.
Trump just got smile f*** by the most conservative bunch he could find in DC and you think emails and letters will get you something other than on a shortlist with them...
You must've missed the tens of thousands of comments sent to the ATF regarding pistol braces, leading to them dropping the issue (for the time being) and pulling back on it.
As mentioned; it isn't hard to take a couple minutes and say something. The complacency within the gun community and NRA is a big part of how so many battles have already been lost over the recent years.
Those who aren't willing to pick up a pen, surely won't be willing to pick up a rifle.
I never understood the mentality of doing nothing when doing something takes such little effort.
Doing nothing accomplishes nothing 100% of the time. Even if doing something has a 1% chance of working - that is infinitely a better result.
The biggest problems with the gun community is the percentage of those who won't do even the smallest thing to try to preserve what we have left, and the nearly rabid levels of the community eating itself over the stupidest s***.
I was appalled by how slowly people started commenting on the most recent brace issue on the ATF's open comment system. These dingles can spend 4 hours a day arguing and name calling over calibers, who is more "operator," and complaining about existing laws - yet can't take literally a minute and a half to add their voice to a conversation that may be worth something.
People say the dumbest stuff like "well if I send letters, emails, or comment then they know who I am, or that I might have stuff." If you are ignorant enough to think any combination on known and unknown three letter agencies don't know enough about you to figure out that your a "gun person" then you are the kind of stupid the short bus wouldn't even pick up. I probably have a dedicated geosynchronous satellite pointed at my house on the sole basis of my amazon shopping history.
