Re: Kash Patel new ATF director
Watched the Washington Gun Law video yesterday and to the degree that he's right, and that I understand it, I think it makes sense. I genuinely hope that a lot of what is going on through Patel and others is the disassembly of the entrenched structures, and the restructuring of the administrative state such that Congress will be forced to fund things in a targeted manner. It would be fantastic if we could literally segregate funding for two separate law enforcement threads...
Thread 1 - funding for cops to fight malum in se crimes (murder, rape, assault, robbery, etc.)...
Thread 2 - funding for cops to fight malum prohibitum crimes (things that are illegal not because they are expressly evil - but because someone has decided that it should be illegal - e.g. owning a rifle with a 15" barrel without permission).
I'm not saying that we should not enforce the second set of laws. We can debate whether we want such laws at all - I'd like to see essentially all such law removed - but the law is the law and we should not just ignore laws that we don't like. On the other hand - when we divert a substantial chunk of our police resource away from pursuing malum in se crimes for the purpose of pursuing specific malum prohibitum crimes that occur on the other side of the political aisle, we're doing the wrong thing. If the people want such a balance - forcing government to overtly fund such a change would be a good thing.
So - would it have been more fun to see Brandon Herrera play games while burning ATF to the ground? Yes. Could this approach be more effective in the long run? Probably...

If he needs an unpaid assistant to go torch those records, I'll buy my own ticket, and I have a lighter.
