COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — Earlier this month, a multi-agency investigation led to the seizure of thousands of rounds of ammunition in southern Arizona.

The ammunition was found in two different SUVs that were traveling east on Interstate 10 from the Phoenix area.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s office stopped one vehicle containing 7.62x39 ammunition.

A second vehicle containing .50 caliber ammunition was located by the Cochise County Counter Narcotics and Trafficking Alliance (CNTA) investigators at Motel 6 in Benson. Detectives at the motel also found two people. One was an asylum seeker out of Cuba, and the other was a U.S. citizen from Texas.

CNTA investigators, along with the Homeland Security Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, seized 10,000 rounds of .50 caliber ammunition and 19,640 rounds of 7.62x39 ammunition in total.

Two asylum seekers occupied the second vehicle, but officials did not say where they were from.

No other details have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.

This is the only reason I don't like the Trump administration.

Bidet would have sold all this for $.05 on the $1, I could afford a couple thousand rounds of .50BMG

I'm torn...

If I choose to transport 30K rounds of ammo - that's my prerogative and I don't want anyone taking it from me because they think that's "too much..." The last time I went out shooting I just grabbed my range ammo cans - and I'd guess between all of the stuff in them I'd bet that there were 4K or more of center fire stuff.

On the other hand - When they say: "Two asylum seekers occupied the second vehicle, but officials did not say where they were from..." I'm guessing that there is more to the story - and if this is INS interdicting cartel guys carrying beans bullets and bandaids for their local army - well - I'm good with it...

yippers the boys in blue or tan believe they can do a lot of things they shouldn't, not slamming them, but the truth is out there.
many moons ago, i picked up a 12k rounds of 308 from a guy in williams, on way back stopped at cordez jt, and grabbed a sammy, i remote started my truck and it just so happened two yavaipai deputies were leaning against it, and scared the ugly out of them, they got huffy, puffy, and claimed i created a disturbance, took about three hours to get their boss and another to explain to'm that i had every right to haul, and own that much ammo, they kept wantint go get in my truck to search it, hehe, i retreated to inside store and hung till their informed boss showed up, the two stepnfetchn, fellas, never apologized, i filed a complaint and well you know how that went, one of them followed me all the way to table mesa road, hehe, sure slowed my roll till he puilled off, guess i got a couple knuckleheads,
