Why Broward Sheriff Let The Coward Resign
He owed him. Peterson helped cover up a sexual assault by the Sheriff's son.

The 2014 incident, long since forgotten, has emerged anew as copies of the report have circulated among parents and reporters for weeks. As a result, the incident has been published, first on a right-leaning news site, then on more traditional outlets.
Parents of some of the Feb. 14 victims, understandably upset with the Broward Sheriff's Office's response to the massacre — at least one deputy failed to enter the school even as Cruz pumped bullets into mortally wounded teens — are demanding that Israel and his son be held accountable, along with the deputy who wrote up the report of the assault. He is Scot Peterson, the same deputy who quit in disgrace after it was learned he never went inside the school to confront the shooter.
The sheriff's office is investigating — how the report got leaked.
A week ago, the hard-right website Gateway Pundit referenced the four-year-old report on the "brutal assault," and pointed out that the incident had been investigated by the in-school deputy. It asked: "Did Broward County Sheriff Israel's Son Get Special Treatment After Brutal School Crime?" The website then answered its own question: "It Sure Looks That Way."
WPLG Local 10 investigative reporter Bob Norman contacted the parents of several of Cruz's victims, and reported that they are demanding an investigation into the 2014 battery. Now-retired resource officer Peterson failed to do his job that day, parents told the reporter, just as he had failed four years later — with far more serious consequences.

And cops wonder why people hate them and don't trust them. One law for you and one for us. Our kid does something bad you ruin his life and your kid gets suspended for a couple days and it gets buried.

Unless you as a citizen pay the big bucks for a top 10 attorney to get your kid off.
Re: Why Broward Sheriff Let The Coward Resign
There was chatter yesterday that the sheriff was going to be suspended. Suspension is not enough for this POS, firing, stripping of benefits and prosecution is what he needs.

Re: UPDATE Coward of Broward REINSTATED

In his defense, he puts his life on the line for you every day (except Wednesday).A Florida law enforcement officer who responded to a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, was fired after an investigation revealed he hid in his car during the deadly rampage. On Wednesday, he got his job back.
Sgt. Brian Miller was one of four Broward County Sherrif's deputies terminated for "neglect of duty" for failing to act during the 2018 shooting that left 17 people dead. He will be restored to his old position and receive back pay after successfully challenging his termination through a union, the Miami Herald reported.

Florida school officer who hid during Parkland shooting to face charges
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The former school resource officer accused of hiding during a South Florida school shooting that left 17 people dead will have to convince a jury that he wasn’t criminally negligent, a judge ruled Thursday.
Broward Circuit Judge Martin Fein declined to dismiss the child negligence charges against former Broward County Deputy Scot Peterson, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Prosecutors are arguing that school resources officers are inherently different from other law enforcement officers and should be considered caregivers.
Fein ruled that a jury can decide whether a school resource officer should be considered a caregiver and noted that a jury instruction will be included to that effect.

Good luck making that one stick. Couldn't get him as an LEO because LEOs have no duty to protect. Try to characterize him as a "caregiver"? That's a stretch, but good for them for trying.

That's my home-town arena. Lived a few miles from that H.S. for many years. Sheriff Israel was a retired city-cop that had an I.A. file like a career perp's rap-sheet. Surprised he ever got elected, but not surprised at the arrogance and malfeasance. Whole thing was sickening.
