i have a buddy that works at cummins. they sell a natural gas setup for grid down situations. i will reach out to him this week. im guessing it has to be inspected by power company like solar.

Any electrical contractor can install it. Most all local building codes require an auto transfer switch now. It will require an inspection buy off. Research how it needs to be connected to see if it does what you want for what you want to spend.
If you don't get a generator that can supply your whole house, you may need another sub panel with the loads it can supply. Bottom line....at least TALK to an electrical contractor. :) YMMV

Edit: Corrected spelling
