The reality of finding food, "In the Woods"

Thanks..

And for the rest of you remember this.

A lot of us are older and of a slightly different understanding of things. A lot of what I read is lost with acronyms and the so-called modern language. If it isn't in my Oxford dictionary I'm lost.

Long pig ....
Can be found almost anywhere in the world but many of them in our area will be stuck in the heat along the side of the road trying to get north in an emergency which will make them easy hunting.

They are often very overweight and slow moving, they have poor predatory eyesight and are virtually blind at night. Many are none to smart and can be easily trapped or lead off embankments.

Being they carry a lot of extra Fat the meat is well marbled and can be delicious.

They do carry a host of deceases though so cook well. A good fire pit should do ya.

or ... from Dictionary.com
(among the Maori and Polynesian peoples) human flesh as food for cannibals.

Azgeezer, I'm sorry to tell you this, but the phrase "long pig" is from 1919, so it's not too modern.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define. ... Long%20pig
The phrase first appeared in Fredrick O’Brien's 1919 travelogue of French Polynesia, "White Shadows in the South Seas".

"Upon it once stood the temple and about it were enacted the rites of mystery, when the priests and elders fed on the 'long pig that speaks,' when the drums beat till dawn and wild dances maddened the blood." (p. 175, ibid.)

The reality of it is this, unless you have a place to go, your boned in a big way. Don't think your going to "TALK" your way into someoneone elses property, let alone there dwelling, it wont work that way in real life.

amen to that, azgeezer.
If someone wants to try and live in the wild while traveling, they would be wise to find out what plants are edible and which ones are poisonous. There more of them around than animals.

I'm contemplating writing about the harshness of this area. It would be rather lenghty and in more than 1 thread.

My dad was really into Herpetology (Reptiles) and Falconry (Raptors\Birds of prey) and spent 27yrs out and about in some of the most remote areas of the S.W. you could possibly imagine. Forgot a lot of what I was taught, but the basics I remember.

I've always gotten a chuckle about the bugging out crowd.
