off grid
Would you considering living off grid if Democraps take the House and or Senate. I can see life can be a living Hell if they do. I rather struggle off grid than having Democraps telling me what is best for the American people. GOD help us if they win the White House. We don't need another loser like Obama.

Re: off grid
ooda,... you give me the impression that you think going "off grid" will somehow immunize you against the fascist progressive democrat socialist's agenda.
You may want to reconsider that train of thought.

That would only work if you were living deep inside one of the more inhospitable wilderness areas.shooter444 wrote: ↑October 17th, 2018, 7:52 am ooda,... you give me the impression that you think going "off grid" will somehow immunize you against the fascist progressive democrat socialist's agenda.

Yah, like, Siberia or the Sahara,... !
I live in what some could consider a remote area, and, I have a back up generator for power outages. I have too many animals to go without water for very long.
I have about a half dozen neighbors living off grid, here. Most do OK with that! Some did OK until a lightning strike took out one family's wind generator tower and the main circuit board. Then another family got hit by lightning and lost their main circuit system and a bunch of rather expensive storage batteries.
Seems like ,... BEING OFF GRID,... only succeeds when,... THE GRID SYSTEM,... is functioning and supplying parts.
When I was a lot younger, doing my pre 1900 period furniture reproductions and wood work,... I had the brain storm to go on a water wheel power system. I had a small stream on my land, two miles up the side of a mountain that I thought I could work with. A water wheel power source,... seemed like,... the closest thing to a system to be a truly OFF THE GRID SYSTEM,,... that I could come up with. But, I got lazy and decided to try using my chef knowledge to open a winter snowmobile restaurant instead.
Which, I operated ,... OFF THE GRID,... with my own well and propane gas lights, propane/gasoline generator power system, wood stoves, gas kitchen appliances, wood sauna/shower, gas powered distroylete (sp?)toilet system, out houses for customers.
But, up in Maine, we just called it daily living!
Which of course, depended entirely on,... THE GRID'S ,... supply of fuel and parts.
Sadly, the stark reality of a TRUE OFF THE GRID life style existence (IMO) would result in a creature comfort level of living, I doubt many would find very palatable.

ooda,... please don't take me wrong! I don't mean to to discourage you! I just wanted to share my thoughts of just what " off the grid " entails, from my experience.

Re: off grid
It's funny how many people think they are "off-grid"...while relying totally on the grid being there.

Re: off grid
IMO,.. an absolute "off the grid" existence ,... would have to be equivalent to,... a cave dwelling!!!

Re: off grid
It doesn't need to be that bad but it does need to be pre-industrial age.shooter444 wrote: ↑October 23rd, 2018, 11:14 am IMO,.. an absolute "off the grid" existence ,... would have to be equivalent to,... a cave dwelling!!!

Re: off grid
?"BAD"?,... what's so bad about a nice and cozy, draft-less, easy to warm with a simple small open fire, naturally camoed, cave domicile?

Cave can be good for a dwelling, depends on the particular cave.shooter444 wrote: ↑October 28th, 2018, 8:18 am ?"BAD"?,... what's so bad about a nice and cozy, draft-less, easy to warm with a simple small open fire, naturally camoed, cave domicile?
I thought you were indicating the person would have to revert to a "cave man" level of existence.

Yes,... of course you did,... wouldn't expect anything different.

Re: off grid
I think most people envision 'off grid' to mean no electric service and that they would have solar power.I think of off-grid to be a little more than that but now, from the above comments I can see that the "GRID" also includes, fuel for vehicles, feed for animals, mail & package delivery from the Internet, news or streaming broadcasts, clothes and just about everything else one might not make themselves... as with everything, there are degrees of living off-grid.
