Black Beard Fire Starters

I came across these online today. I have never used them but it seems like it's worth looking into. Their website states products are made in the USA, they are windproof and water proof.

I have been using cotton balls dipped in wax for years. Using dental cotton roles looks like a great improvement on my process, being long and small diameter it is easier to bend and break up the center for easy lighting. I usually have to use a knife to dig out a ragged flap for easy lighting in cold temps.

I could make these for damn near free. My wife is into making candles (and burns a ton), so there is always wax waste around. And, she manages a dental clinic. Free cotton.

Old film canister or small prescription bottles with cotton balls soaked in Vaseline. Works good.

I was gonna say that. Cotton balls with Vaseline is a great fire starter. Burns and burns.

Or dryer lint instead of cotton balls. It's free, and with vaseline, it will burn like a candle. Plus a spark from a ferro rod will set it off, first try.

That is what I use. I go one more step. Since the petroleum jelly is kind of messy I wrap each of the soaked cotton balls in a small piece of waxed paper before I stuff them into the containers.
