Emergency Declared and Curfew Ordered Following Moore Power Grid Attack

#1

Post by Epic_Ed »

Two power substations were intentionally sabotaged Saturday night in Moore County, NC knocking out power to 40k+ homes and businesses. Reports indicate this was accomplished with firearms but further details are scant. No idea if this was some local yahoos doing redneck sh*t or if it was a trail run for something larger, but it's going to be several days before power is restored.

Our power grid is shockingly fragile and susceptible to sabotage. There are about 55k power substations in the US. You know how many it would take to knock out the entire grid? Less than 10. A study conducted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) a few years ago determined it would only take NINE substation failures to create a cascading blackout across the US.

There are reports from the county that conservatives are being targeted for questioning if they made recent social media posts protesting a local drag show. At least two individuals have been questioned about their potential involvement with no other probable cause than the fact they had objected publicly to the drag show that originally planned to allow children and teens to attend.

There's also some speculation/warning about copycats in other areas of the country in the days/weeks to come, so check your power outage preps.

Most people haven't a clue what it takes to replace power related equipment when needed. The ease in where a group could organize and take down multiple substations should be concerning to all. People worry about an EMP but this scenario is far more likely.

Your so right about the infrastructure being tenuous. I remember the one in 2003 which took out a good chunk of the east coast including Canada and it was caused by TREES!

at least at that one there were no riots... thats a plus.

I've read a few stories where this was suspected to have been a group trying to kill a drag queen story event.

Take that with a whole shaker of salt now.

Apparently some lady on a social media platform was quasi taking credit or strongly hinting that this was the case till cops started talking to her.

Again rumor so take it as such. Lots of local conspiracy theorists on conspiracy central, aka abovetopsecret.com, who live in the area are reporting this.

This isn't the first time guns have been used to shut power off but it is obviously organized and coordinated. It could be econazis, militia yahoo's or a few drunk rednecks pissed at something but it should be a wake up call.

Remember we learned in AZ that the supply or replacement equipment of the larger stuff isn't just sitting on a shelf and if the right substations are taken out you could cause a state or regional grid failure that would take weeks to months to repair. If demand is high enough that could easily domino.

Here in Texas losing power in the winter sucked 2 years ago. We all have fire places and lots have generators so we survived without the house getting below 40 on the 2 nights it's was below 0 outside.

People who live in apartments didn't have that stuff and trailers who wernt skirted properly or older homes with pipes in attics had real problems.

This isn't no joke as we have seen our cities devolve into Mogadishu like s*** holes during blackouts in the past.

Heh. Heh. Probably.

The outage affected "About 45,000 homes and businesses in Moore County". I think it shut down more than just one drag show.
