Area has always been sketchy but add to that little law enforcement and ... well you get crazy crime numbers...
Police force is at historic low and they are having real problems getting anyone to join up.
Still .. one of my best "vacations" ever was a business trip tied to a vacation that I took with my wife in the french quarter. Oh man if you like food, music and drink .. it was the place to go.
