Recommended Book - Where There Is No Doctor

Discuss being prepared for contingencies and emergencies. Oh yeah, and the coming Zombie Apocalypse, of course!

Recommended Book - Where There Is No Doctor

#1

Post by BigNate »

When I was a kid my dad trained relief and development workers (and missionaries) and I got to hang out with them in the summers. I remember the book Where There Is No Doctor being part of the kit that folks would take with them when they were headed overseas (1980 - headed to Somalia and Kenya to work in remote areas). I was reading some of the posts here and the recent healthcare thread reminded me that I'd been meaning to find a copy of this book to keep as part of our bug-out kit. Well - it must be good info - because instead of a used copy I just bought a copy of the 18th printing from Jan of 22. Thought I'd share it here for those who might not have this area covered.

It is basically a survival medicine guide - The summary reads:
Hesperian's classic manual, Where There Is No Doctor, is arguably the most widely-used health care manual in the world...

...Useful for health workers, clinicians, and others involved in primary health care delivery and health promotion programs, with millions of copies in print in more than 75 languages, the manual provides practical, easily understood information on how to diagnose, treat, and prevent common diseases. Special attention is focused on nutrition, infection and disease prevention, and diagnostic techniques as primary ways to prevent and treat health problems.
If the link does not work the title is "Where There Is No Doctor" and the ISBN is 978-0942364156 (ISBN-13) or 0942364155 (ISBN-10)

Thanks for this. I leant out a copy years ago and it never found it way back to me. I had forgotten the title and always meant to replace it. Ordered a used copy, good stuff.

Thanks for the link to download. Looks like a good resource. Probably still worth picking up a hardcopy.
