Ultimate Survival Rifle Build

#1

Post by campinginaz »

So I have been thinking of either getting another Ruger 10/22 Takedown but with a Magpul X-22 Backpacker stock or just getting a Magpul X-22 Backpacker stock for mine (but I really like my current set up).

I was Googling on how to add a rail on the Magpul X-22 backpacker so I could add a light when I came across these videos. I think this is a pretty cool setup for a camping/hiking or bug out rifle, so I thought I would share.

I don't think the Ruger integral will fit the Magpul backpacker stock. Thompspon machine Operative Takedown, Gemtech Mist-22TD, Tactical Solutions X-Ring TSS or Innovative Arms R1022 would be good options.

They also make the backpacker for the 9mm ruger pc carbine which is a great survival rifle to pair with a 9mm Glock.

The 10/22 Charger has an 8" barrel and you can put a folding brace on it. I don't know what velocity loss between an 8 and 16" barrel would be but I doubt it would be much. Just a thought

I built a SBR AR with the CMMG 22lr kit and a folder. With suppressor it’s under 24”, under 18 without.

I will add the Keltec CP33, with a Farrowtech brace. Very small and accurate, 33 rounds inside the grip or and extended 50 round mag option. You have to be careful loading the quad stack magazines, but if you do that part correctly mine has been very reliable.

For those of you who mentioned suppressors quit giving me more ideas to spend money! Just kidding. I found this video, it's a long one but you can skim through it as well. You could also just use a regular suppressor, not as cool, but it can be used on more than one firearm.

I have to agree it's a great option as well. When I have gone to Moab I bring my Glock 19, Kel-Tec Sub 2000 (Gen 2 though) and my Ruger LCP II.

There are always pros and cons and the Kel-Tec Sub 2000 would make a much better self defense weapon and larger game in my opinion.

A .22lr would be better for small game and the fact that you can carry much more ammo.

I'm no ballistics expert but my first thought was no way, you would lose so much velocity.

A quick Google search (if this info is correct) shows you are 100% correct. A 16 inch barrel shooting cheap Remington ammo should be around 1185 feet per second while an 8 inch barrel shooting the same ammo is around 1101 feet per second.

This makes me want to consider getting one of the suppressor options one day.
