EDC Flashlights?

#1

Post by G34 »

whats everyone running for EDC lights? My old surefire 300 lumens just aren't keeping up and not to mention when i did our low light FBI qual it was completely useless beyond 10 yards.

stepped up to the new Streamlight HL-X 1000 lumen and loving it. with the recharge battery for 80 bucks was a steal.

For EDC, most people carry small lights or worse, they only rely on their smart phones flashlight app.

Your job, lifestyle, or the event you're attending will always dictate the gear but for duty/edc/hd/general purpose the surefire G2X LE Series from Surefire is an incredible light option for its $60ish price point. I recommend it to many people. Another great light is the surefire tactician for more output and an aluminum body, but it's almost double the price point.

Surefire EDCL2-T, 1,200 lumens high, 5 lumens low. Good throw, aurora and outstanding splash which makes it a great EDC flashlight.

For some things, 1,200 lumens is too much and 5 lumens isn't enough, so I also carry a Streamlight Microstream at 45 lumens.

I carry the microstream USB. Solid little light, pocket clip, USB rechargable, high/low modes. Under $40.

The microstream was uselessnin our qual. I wouldn’t recommend that to anyone trying to ID something on someone.

Neither would I, but that's not what it's for.

So how many lights do you carry?
Or maybe you don’t use the micro as a defense light then?

I carry the two in my earlier post and no, I wouldn't even think of using the micro as a defense light. It's for finding springs that have escaped when I was working on my guns or bullets that have dropped under the loading bench or tools that are hidden away in the drawers on my loading bench, stuff like that.

I use the EDCL-2 as a defense light.

I use an old Everyday Industrial yellow flashlight at home.
I carry an old green military flashlight in my truck.
Other than that it is whatever Harbor Freight gives away free.

Last night quals I did I used a stream light scorpion. The original that had 70 lumens I think. It worked ok to 25 yards but would probably appear completely inadequate next to today's lights.

Personally I've had very good luck with Coast lights. Carried a PX25 for several years, and currently carry a PX1 as my EDC. For anywhere from $20-$40 from Home Depot, I find them incredibly hard to beat in terms of value. The ability to focus the beam on the fly and use easy-to-find AAA (or AA depending on the model) batteries are things I definitely appreciate. Their customer service is top notch in my experience as well.
