CowTown?

Post by Doc »

Ol MooTown has been open for quite a while.

Curious to hear everyone’s opinions. The good. The bad. The silly.

It’s a drive for me and idk if it’s really worth it.

It’s a good spot to shoot.
Long range steel targets 5out to 1k yard that you can shoot at your own speed (no downtime like Ben Avery). There are also multiple closer range bays that are run in the same fashion.
In my mind the only downside is the 2 hour blocks and it can get busy requiring a reservation.

I like that mgmt runs on a “big boy rules” approach. IE YOU are your safety officer on your bay.

While I grew up shooting in the desert those days of doing that safely are long gone. Too many spots are closed or infested with trash (both living and discarded) to make it worth a trip to the moo town.

I definitely like the idea of being treated like an adult and not being shot at….last time I was out in the desert plinking some rounds sounded a little too close. Paled it up and left.

that place has ran out many instructors. if you bring guests it gets expensive. the road to get out there has gotten alot better. now you need to check in before you head to the bay. wednesday night steel is a bonus for members. overall i like it especially when fire restrictions come into play

I love the idea of not having to setup & cleanup my own steel. Loading up the truck, unloading/setup in the desert, packing up in the desert, unloading & repacking my s*** back at home takes a good chunk of time. It would be amazing to just toss my rifle & ammo in the truck and come home and toss the empties in the tumbler and go grab a beer.

I'm assuming you have to schedule a separate trip if you want to sight in equipment or load changes at 100y? Or is it possible to spend 30min sighting in and the rest of your time at the longer range bay?

And how well do the reservations work? Do people do a good job of packing up on time or do you have to kick them out when their time is up?

Well I finally made it out there.

It was a very target rich environment with some plus sized steel.

My only complaint was the burger place, Wild Horse West doesn’t serve fries.

Other than that it was a nice place to sling lead.
