SAFETY REMINDER: always check the chamber

#1

Post by Suck My Glock »

We Glock owners are all familiar with the disassembly procedure to remove the slide;...you HAVE to pull the trigger to do so. As a result, we always rack the slide to eject any round that may be in the chamber, and do so while no magazine is in the grip. BUT,...do you still inspect the chamber to ensure it is empty?

This guy was convinced he had unloaded his Glock.

From reddit: I was trying to disassemble my glock 44 in 22lr, racked the slide a couple times to ‘clear the chamber’ but failed to visually inspect. pulled the trigger as you would to remove the slide on glock firearms, and BAM. safe to say i’m an idiot. ALWAYS VISUALLY INSPECT THE CHAMBER!! a valuable life lesson, pain is a very important teacher. i think im the first person ever to say ‘thank god it was only a .22’
This kind of stuff happens more often than we know. Could have been much worse. Firearm safety rules are there for a reason! If you own a gun, you must own a trauma kit. Non-negotiable in 2025.

More than one gun safety rules were broken that day. Why was his hand near the muzzle?

He got pretty lucky considering he broke a few safety rules. That could have been a whole lot worse. Always visually inspect the chamber!

Very good reminder for all of us OP. Complacency, not adhering to gun safety rules, will get you hurt or worse.

Always check the chamber, sure. But don't point the gun at your hand anyway.
If he had been pointing the gun in a safe direction, the accident would have been benigh. Loud noise, embarrassment, but no injury.
Loaded or unloaded, don't point the gun at your hand (or foot, or groin, or wife, or child, or friend, or dog).

Glad to know that getting hit with a 22lr isn't as bad as I thought it could be.
