Outta-stater shut DOWN from pistol buy

#1

Post by pneuby »

I was at a dealer yesterday and witnessed the right action/s taken.

Guy was trying to buy a collectible used pistol. Presented an Az. I.D.(only). Clerk checks with owner, who reiterates story-policy that one MUST have an AZ CCW if it's not a D.L., and simply an I.D.

Clerk offers to HOLD pistol for him to obtain a DL that afternoon, or tomorrow to complete the deal. The doofus responds, "No, that's okay..I gotta head back tomorrow..." Followed by the clerk finishing the thought "..to where you LIVE???". Doofus realizes he's been SNAGGED, and shuffled on out the door.

Musta been a Commifornian, else he woulda offered up the ideal of shipping to his local FFL.

Yup, been there,... turned down two sales to guys being very defensive and adamantly claiming that a AZ ID was sufficient to prove residency, and that they had bought previously with just a Az, state issued, ID.

What I found most interesting,... was how BOTH potential buyers had the same excuse of not owning a car, and therefore had no use for an Az DL.

I never got around to asking, but, I always wondered how they were going to meet up for the transaction!

:confusion-confused:

You can get an AZ CCW as a nonresident also, so where is that protection?

How do you get an AZ ID if you are a CA resident? Seems fishy as heck.

CA people are getting desperate I suppose.

The last I heard, AZ ID's can be issued by the Az Motor Vehicle Dept.,... without any other ID, as a walk in service for anyone.

But, it is something I HEARD,... so, take it with a grain of salt.

I am not sure if it is the same as an AZ ID card but to get an AZ travel ID you need three things.

Birth Certificate
Social Security Administration (SSA) Card
Documents from TWO DIFFERENT ENTITIES (business, organization, tribal or government agency) containing both the applicant’s name and current residential address.

CORRECT,... with a complete resume of false information,... even an illegal can get one.

edit,... just checked and found that a Social Security Number is the only official ID needed. Which are illegally available to anyone. The rest of the required info is just the normal personal info,... name, age, address, sex, etc., etc.,... which illegals falsely present, everyday.

You need to recheck your check.
The link you posted is for an application.
You can do the application on line but you must go in to an MVD office to actually get one.
When you go in to get the ID you need to bring with you

Birth Certificate
Social Security Administration (SSA) Card
Documents from TWO DIFFERENT ENTITIES (business, organization, tribal or government agency) containing both the applicant’s name and current residential address.

I'm going to clear up a misconception for you guys.

They state they want a Birth Certificate. If you get a passport or passport card, they say the same thing, but they won't accept a Birth Certificate when you show up.

They want what they call a "state certified birth certificate" which is actually a COLB or certificate of live birth. They won't accept a birth certificate. I know because I tried to use one and argued the point. I lost of course and had to produce a certified COLB.

No, I'm talking about the "travel ID" mentioned earlier in the thread. AKA REAL ID.
