You would figure it would be easier to bribe gov officials down there to get it direct out of there military. Or out of any other South American countries.

They do. Most of the AR's, grenades, etc. that the cartels use come from the Mexican LE and military forces. Those guns are provided by the US government under official channels.

Exactly this. If anyone is even remotely interested in personal safety check Calderon out.
