Case stuck in AR15

#1

Post by Markhpb01 »

Hey guys,

I’m brand new here and I’ve got a problem. Hopefully somebody here will have a solution for me. I’ve got an A.R. 15 with a Case stuck in the chamber. The extractor ripped the entire head off of the case and left the rest of the case in the chamber. When the rifle went to chamber another round the bolt would not close. Upon further inspection I noticed the top portion of the case still stuck in the chamber. Since the extractor ripped the entire head clean off the case a cleaning rod or a wooden dowel won’t do the trick. Do you guys have any idea what I can do to remove the rest of the case from the chamber. Thank you

Wolf ammo?

Any Gunsmith will be able to remove it. You might have to remove the barrel to get a better angle at it.

There are plenty of shell extractors on the market that insert through the back of the case (where the head used to be) and then hook around the neck. It's as easy as cycling the bolt to pull the shell extractor (and hopefully the shell) out by the rifle's extractor.

I can't vouch for this model specifically, but this is the kind of product that you'll need.

You can also use a EZ-Out. Takes them split cases out quite easily. I also use them for removing a stuck case on my reloading press sizing dies.

I have a broken shell extractor and can say they work quite well. Its part of my standard range kit. They run around $10. The last time I could not get the stuck/damaged case to budge, with the shell extractor in place. I just left the extractor in place, put some Hoppes #9 down the muzzle to loose any crude that might be around the case and then tapped out with a wooden dowel.

Most likely my fault for not staying on top of chamber maintenance when shooting crap russian ammo, and allowing carbon/debris to build up in the chamber wedging the shell in place.

Brownell's broken shell extractors work well for me.

Shove a screw driver between the bass and the chamber wall by tapping it with a hammer. That will give you something to grab onto with the needle nose pliers.

I just use a slightly oversized cleaning rod. The fluffy one. Only ever did it twice though. Worked well for me. The friction from the cleaning rod head pushes the case out easy-peazy.

Ditto what AZ_Five56 said. The tool is inexpensive and should be in every AR shooters toolkit.

Once you get it out, consider polishing that chamber.
