Universal sight pushing tool

#1

Post by TacMedic »

I’m in the market for a universal tool that can change out sights on Glocks, and just about any other gun you can name (that you can change out the sites). The longer the list of guns I can work on, the better.

I want the best there is and cost is not an option at this point. My google search returns with this, but is there something better?

Suggestions please.

I have one like this for years and have used it on a bunch of different hand guns. Mine seems to have a wider variety of standoff blocks that make it more useful across a wider range though.

One big suggestion is to get the one with the machine screw instead of the ones with the short fixed handles.

With the screw you can get at it with a socket wrench. I had one rear sight that was a biatch! I was glad to be able to use a socket wrench rather than a 5 inch 1/4 in thick rod

Some thing I forgot to mention, it needs to be able to do a Glock 42, 43, 43X, as well as all the standard guns.

I used to use a sight pusher. Don’t anymore.

I’ve gone with a good vice, a hammer and aluminum punch. Works way better.

A pusher can be beneficial for removing some sights like the Kimber front sight. Putting in new sights though shouldn’t be done with a pusher. You need to properly fit the sight with a file.

Lookup Dawson Precision on YouTube. He has a great video on installing sights. He probably installs more aftermarket sights than nearly anyone.

Another +1 for a vise, punch, and something to prevent scuffing up the slide. Wood or leather both work well.

Cost will be about the same if you don't already have them, but will be useful for many many more tasks.

I ended up buying one that worked great. No adapter needed for smaller size guns.

I've had one of these for quite a while now. I've done a Glock 42, 43, 26 and 17 and also a couple of Sig P220s and a Sig P239 with it.
