You might have seen a post I've made listing a Springfield M1842 musket for sale. Well, I've decided to keep it as I've finally found a stock that will provide the missing section I needed. I'd like to take the section of the stock that's currently on the rifle from about the second barrel band forward, and have it spliced onto the stock I just picked up (which had been shortened approximately 8"). I want the repair to appear correct for the time period, but I'm not exactly sure how it would have been done then (civil war era).
Brass pins or wood + glue or ?
Any local gunsmiths with experience in stock repair?
The musket itself isn't really that valuable and doesn't have any sentimental value; just wanting to wake a nice display for the wall.

Here's approx. where the splice would need to go:

There are several guys who make peroid correct rifles from scratch. They do the whole rifle from butt plate to crown. They might be a good resource but you would have to do a little google fu to find them.
