At our Saturday night match, we had a new to us shooter with his branddy new AR-10ish .308. I get called over to DX a problem, i.e., single shot semi auto. Picked it up and looked at the FSB, a low profile type, thinking perhaps it had the gas turned down/off, when my eye fixates on the hole in the top of the clamp on FSB. Right into the barrel, lightly encircled by gas marking. ...
Note, this is a NIB, first time out from the dealer, (online auction, btw) nicely decked out .308. Will wonders never cease. It sure makes for some interesting stories!
Since it had a screw-on round handguard, solid, it could not be ascertained if there was a gas tube present.

Yep, manufacture. Whether they forgot to install a gas tube or stuffed one in and forgot to pin it, jury is still out. I did not check inside the chamber to see if a tube was present. Left that to the owner....
