I live in the North Phoenix area and need an experienced gunsmith to thread my bolt action rifle barrel for a suppressor. Can anyone recommend one where they can do the work right at their shop and not have to send it away?

Call AWC, they have done many rifles and pistols for me over the years and they get it right. I own a machine shop and send my personal stuff out to them, that should tell you something about them. They are usually pretty quick too, think my longest wait was a couple weeks and it was done when they said it would be.

Phoenix Custom Rifles

I don't think they'll do it while you wait, but you should be able to drop off and pick up to save shipping.

What's the average cost for something like this? Just looking to suppress a 22lr bolt rifle.

Thread muzzle and recut crown - $80 to $140
Includes indicating the bore coaxially to within .0002", threading your muzzle, cutting a new crown, and refinishing(Cerakote) if applicable.

Proper thread gauges are used for quality control. Barrels under 20"-21" in length require extra work and have a small fee.
Or you could get a Savage Mark II FV-SR 22LR for around $230.

Gave them a call and and a fellow from Strategic Armory Corps called me back. He said they didn't do work for individuals and referred me to another gunsmith. Called KILO Guns and they'll do it for $125 but have a long wait. I guess its faster to buy a rifle with a threaded brl and I'll just sell this one. 8-)

I guess they are screwing the customer service reputation Lynn built while he was alive, never had a thread job that took more than a week and sometimes it was the next day. Wonder if they are now no longer transferring directly to individuals either. Guess it's a good thing I bought extra pistol barrels from them before Lynn died.

You could try Frank Glenn, he is actually the only gunsmith who has ever delivered on time and not lied to me. I really hate gunsmiths, I have learned to do a lot of my own work over the years so I don't have to pay one of them.

Or you can try Lester Bruno he does good work.

I guess since we're on the "who will thread" thread....

I have time to wait on having a rifle barrel done, don't even have the suppressor yet.

I also have a couple pistols I would like to get threaded barrels for. One is a P89. It doens't look like one is made. But, I found a place called Tornado technologies that will weld a threaded extension on. BUT, it's in a metric thread. The place seem legit, but I'm not sure I like that idea too much.

I would also like to get a threaded barrel for my P320c, but in 40s&w. I can only find 9mm.

YIKES!

That is two ten thousandths of an inch.

Class 3 Machining in Dallas, TX
No s***, it'll get done faster than any local smith and the job will be done right for an excellent price.

Use the contact us form to email him the specs of the job. If the gun is disassembled and just the barrel or barreled action is sent his prices are good.

I ended up using PCR. Dropped it off on a Friday, and picked it up the following week.
