Absolute best bluing pen?

Discuss work on firearms; whether that is making yours from the ground up, milling an 80%, putting together a kit, or fine tuning a trigger job.

Absolute best bluing pen?

#1

Post by Boriqua »

I have never used one of the pens and know its a compromise but I put the tiniest of shinny spots on a gun while installing a new front sight and .. well it bugs me.

There are a few different pen alternatives and the finish looks more parkarized than true bluing .. any suggestions short of "just get over it"

I just use a black Sharpie. It works well enough for me. YMMV

Get some of the brownells oxpho blue. Works wonders. I prefer the creme.

I've got Birchwood Casey, Oxpho (both types), and probably another I can't recall.
Just dip the tip of Q-tip into your soup-du-jour, and apply as needed.

The Sharpie as mentioned works surprisingly well.

I thought I was alone in my shame using a sharpie for touch up.

The trick that I've found is to apply it by stippling it onto the area you're touching up. Let it sit for a few seconds, and then wipe it with a paper towel to blend it in. Sometimes I have to make a few passes.
