G9 Defense - thoughts?

After a long hiatus, the firearms bug bit me again. I’m back to carrying regularly now, and I’m looking for the best 9mm round for carrying.

The G9 Defense “external hollow point” has caught my attention - not sure, though, whether it’s gimmicky or legitimately an improved self defense round.

If you’ve used, or if you carry, G9 ammo for 9mm, I’d like to hear your experiences.

Ok, I got no replies here.

So … tell me, what’s the best 9mm self-defense ammo?

I personally carry either 124 or 147 grain gold dots in all my carry guns

I'm odd, and carry 35 year old Federal Nyclad 125 LRNHP. Very difficult to find anymore, but it is the largest expanding and softest shooting standard pressure 9mm HP Federal ever loaded. (Gold Dots are a very close 2nd place.)

IMO the best defensive ammo is Fort Scott Tumbles under impact. Will do more damage than any hollow point.

Gold Dot 124's, regular or +P. Used by many law enforcement agencies, so good enough for me. Easy to defend in court if some prosecutor wants to make a stink about the ammo you used to defend yourself.

Absolutely, Gold Dot 124's, whether regular or +P, are solid choices with a proven track record. And you're spot on about the importance of a solid defense strategy, both in skills and ammo choice. That's where customized firearms training comes in—ensuring you're not just confident in your gear, but also in your ability to use it effectively, making any legal discussions that may arise much smoother.
