Advice on whicjh handguns to bring to my part time house

Post by QuangTri »

At this time, will not be a full time Arizona resident. Wife has issues with a full time move.

That said, assuming I go about getting a CCW permit (I know it is not needed) the issue of which handgun I have would be more appropriate for discreet carry, to bring it over in baggage:

Colt Series 70 .45
Glock 30 SF .45

One is long but slender, the other short but thick.

Anyone try to daily or occasional carry such hardware?

I know there are a lot of newer guns, but I already have these and am somewhat wedded to the .45 ACP

Well,...is that all?

So much goes into what makes for "the best" concealable gun from one person to another. Really, only you can make the determination.

I'm a fat dude, so depending on what loose clothing I wear, I can pack a fairly chunky pistol and have. My preferred daily carry is a Glock 19, but I've gotten away with doing it with a Glock 20 before. Have also carried 1911s in the past.

But some folk who are short or slender or both can have a hard time hiding a big pistol. Having wide hips can make it difficult too.

From my perspective, the problem isn't so much the pistol you wear, but the clothing. Really loose rumply clothes make a HUGE difference.

The glock will print less. Shorter grip is more important than thin. With the correct clothing setup, you could carry both at the same time.

I'm a big guy so when I go conveyed I carry a S&&W 1911 45 ACP so I would chose the Colt Series 70 .45.

No shock for me, been visiting Arizona for sixty years.

I live nowhere near a jungle, and this island has few beaches, mostly rocky shoreline.

I do feel like I am behind enemy lines politically and that is much of what is compelling me to start a process of relocating.

How and what you carry is a personal choice and a lot of trial and error to find what works for you. IMO taking a CCW class should be a top priority. A good class will cover AZ specific laws, your personal responsibilities, the liabilities associated if you discharge your gun and more. You might consider a class on how to use a handgun in a defensive situation. Learning to safely draw and discharge a loaded gun is more important then how to carry it. If you have all that then great!

I daily a 30 or a 36. Previous EDC was a stainless Springfield 1911. No comparison, the Glocks are much easier to carry and conceal and more comfortable.
I use an IWB holster clipped into left front pocket and an untucked shirt. Easy to sit, drive, etc.
I'm not very tall or large but the 1911 was difficult to move around with in normal daily work activities.
