Replace Scope for hand me down hunting rifle?

Trying to decide what I should swap out an old scope with.
Story goes like this. I picked up my grandfathers Sako L579 chambered in 6mm several years back. Came with an old Weaver wide view 3-9 scope on 1” rings. I took it out and she shoots pretty nice but the scope is rough to use after being so spoiled with modern scopes. Vortex diamondback.
I’d like to keep the classic look with the dove tail mounts so not sure if 30mm will be an option.
Any input would be appreciated.

Unless the Weaver is broke, I would just keep the scope it came with. Grand dad's rifle with grand dad's scope.

Both the rifle and the scope are classics... Don't change them- they are what they are and the Weaver is a good scope... now if it was a Tasco....

I'd get that grip cap fixed first.

What do you mean by " rough to use " ?

If you plan on using it...change the scope. Keep the old scope and rings and when your done "using it" put the old scope and rings back on it and hang it on the wall or give it to your next generation.

^What he said. No sense leaving that scope on there when something newer could offer much more versatility. Grandpa probably wanted you to use the rifle, so make it more usable.

If I were in your shoes,... I would change out the scope ... IF,... I wanted a scope of different power. If 3x9 is good for your needs, leave it, many folk like and want the classics, with good reasons,... steel tube scopes are very robust brush poppers.

Then, I would strip the finish on the stock and put a simple rubbed oil finish on, just before fixing the grip cap.

That's all!

If you are set on the course of change I believe Weaver or Williams makes a conversion mount .
It fits on dovetail and the top is Weaver . Then you use any ring you want.
