Talk to me about ranger finders
I don't own one but was thinking of getting one. I don't think I need anything crazy expensive. Compact would be nice for sure.
I don't own anything Vortex but I have looked at their scopes and binoculars, they seem like good quality and I know people who have them who like them.
I saw this online https://www.sportsmans.com/hunting-gear ... and+Optics
Any thoughts and advice is appreciated.

Unless you want to spend lots of money , they all work about the same.
Just different features and modes on them.
A friend of mine has one like you are looking at and it works fine.
The people I hunt and shoot with have used them all at one time or another , and they all read about the same.
I have a Leica that I spent good money on years ago and all the ones they have , read just about as good as mine. The only difference is , mine is 30 + years old and still going.
I am not a Vortex fan , but am sure the one you are looking at will be fine.

Re: Talk to me about ranger finders
Thank you. I'm thinking around the $200 range if they are good, Vortex, Nikon, Leupold (probably not at $200). I looked at a couple of Bushnells online but I'm a little more skeptical on those.

Re: Talk to me about ranger finders
ive had alot of problems with SIg rangefinders unfortunatly
the 1000-2000 yard range finders struggle in the AZ mirage and brush. so unless its a hard structure you wont get a reading past 1k yards. so realistically it depends on your needs
Leicas are fine. over rated IMO
I have a Vortex 4000 Razor HD and have ranged building at 3600 yards unsupported. The Vortex fury LRF bino are great also.
Im a Long Range shooter Hobby and Professionally (prior) to give some context

I think 800 to 1000 yards is good as long as it's easy to use, reliable, and accurate. I'll keep that in mind about the Sig rangefinders, I would expect better quality from them!

Re: Talk to me about ranger finders
I went to Sportsmans Warehouse today and met a few members from the board. I went inside and looked at the Vortex I originally linked. It's nice but the reticle is black only and most others I looked at had red illumination which I liked better.
I really liked this one bit didn't get it as I want to do some research and I'll probably get a nice gift card from work soon that will cover this. Anyone have one of these?

Sounds like it is optimized for archery ballistics, not firearms.campinginaz wrote: ↑May 27th, 2023, 8:07 pm I really liked this one bit didn't get it as I want to do some research

I thought it was both because it's 1400 yards.QuangTri wrote: ↑May 27th, 2023, 10:27 pmSounds like it is optimized for archery ballistics, not firearms.campinginaz wrote: ↑May 27th, 2023, 8:07 pm I really liked this one bit didn't get it as I want to do some research

I have a Redfield Raider 550 for many years and it has never let me down. Inexpensive as well.

Re: Talk to me about ranger finders
I also have the same Redfield STS ^^^ listed above, had it a long time for sure. I still think that price on the Vortex is pretty good, maybe see if Midway USA, Mid South Shooters Supply can meet or beat that price

Re: Talk to me about ranger finders
Thank you for the advice on the Redfields. This Vortex is only $40 more and Optics Planet is doing 10% off. Also seems like a good option if the Leupold I linked is not a good one.
