Sorry to tell a new AZ shooter that the old days of outdoor shooting is all but gone. Used to be there were countless wild shooting spots all around the valley, but inconsiderate junk dogs have ruined that in most places. Few people know how little privately owned land there is in AZ. Most is BLM, State Land, or Reservations (and you damn sure don't want to get caught shooting on one). There are some large and small ranges scattered around, but most are heavily regulated and few allow working out of the holster, which is imperative for me.

Is Four Peaks still a thing? I have not been out that way in probably 10 years.

Table Mesa is still an option, but you can't be near the roads or the signs or the trails or anything else.

I was out at four peaks 2 weeks ago and everything after the final staging area at 4 peaks is closed because of the fires we had there. Pretty much all up Beeline for at least another 20 miles is all closed as well. I head out to an area near mile marker 18 off of carefree hwy west of the 17. Some times the sheriff shows up to check things out but its usually pretty empty during the week.

So you want to do some desert shooting?
First thing you need is a 4x4 with a full tank of gas. Start driving out of town for about an hour. Pick a side road and drive for another 30 minutes. You should be in the boonies by now. Have fun and clean up your mess

Haha well put Java Junkie. Head out to the desert, be aware of whats beyond your backdrop, and enjoy an afternoon of freedom.
