Hodgdon is Selling Direct to the Public Now
Got this in email from Hodgdon today:
Introducing IMR Powders Direct to Your Door
IMR – Legendary Powders
imrpowder.com
Checked it out and they have several powders in stock that are difficult to find elsewhere. Unfortunately, it's only IMR powders for now.

If they are selling them for what they are listing them for on their website, they are close to Bass Pro pricing + shipping. I’ll pass.

Re: Hodgdon is Selling Direct to the Public Now
I think this is a move a lot of manufacturers are making, being in const. biz, i'm finding lotsa specialty product are being offered direct going around their original vendors. The advantage i'm finding out is that you will get it faster, and a usually guaranteed time. As with the local original vendors, take a back seat to supply demand. Pretty sure this is the new marketing plan to take out the middle man, which means locally products will be come harder to get, prices will increase, the major way of capitalism
just my opinion though

Eliminating the middle man has been going on for decades.

Re: Hodgdon is Selling Direct to the Public Now
Manufacturer’s have avoided direct sales because of the distribution problem. They used stocking distributors who in turn used local dealers. Many years ago, I faced this same problem for a different purpose. This was pre-Amazon prime, next day, delivery. I learned that Caterpillar the tractor folks, were delivering huge replacement parts anywhere in the world within 48 hours and they offered logistics services for others that needed that capability. I put a contract together with Caterpillar.
Nowadays, you get Amazon, groceries, Walmart, Costco deliveries in 2 days. Someone was smart enough to pay some logistics company 35% rather than 50% split between distributers and dealers while still incurring delivery costs from manufacturer, to distributor, to dealer, then local storage costs due to local restrictions on storing “hazardous materials”.
I like it, will especially like it better when it gets competitive, 30 minutes or its free.

Re: Hodgdon is Selling Direct to the Public Now
I added an 8lb jug of IMR4895 to the cart and they wanted $18 to ship, $20 for hazmat, and $16 or $17 for tax. So whatever the price they are charging add around $60. If you can’t find the powder you want, this may be an alternative. But I have been finding the powders I want from Brunos and Powder Valley. Except of course the powders that are just impossible to find like Varget.

Re: Hodgdon is Selling Direct to the Public Now
I buy a lot from Powder Valley. Powder, primers (when they have them), bullets, brass. But I recently discovered a unicorn here. An LGS with a well stocked inventory of most everything I need. Prices are a little high but if you order from PV with shipping and hazmat the LGS is a little cheaper. I just bought 2k primers and an 8lb jug of H110 from the LGS. The primers were a bit high but the H110 was a good price. It more than made up for the primers being a little high. I am going to shop local at the LGS before I order from PV if they have what I need.

I stopped over and saw Jason at Brunos the other week but unfortunately didn’t have the CFE but I did but some 4064 from him. I’ll always shop local first...totally agreeHigh Standard wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 5:58 pmI buy a lot from Powder Valley. Powder, primers (when they have them), bullets, brass. When I can’t find what I need locally I check out Brunos. I have ordered from them before. They have terrific Customer Service. Also family owned and operated. Unfortunately, lately they didn’t have what I needed when PV did. I don’t get down to Phoenix very often. But I’ll ty and find some time to check them out next trip down.

Re: Hodgdon is Selling Direct to the Public Now
It kind of makes that Hodgdon is selling directly to the public now. I’m a little surprised they have not been doing this for several years now, especially since everyone is purchasing many more things online and are shopping in fewer brick and mortar stores. Just look at how the malls and some of the larger established retailers are closing their in-person stores and are shifting exclusively to online sales only.
