Full Wadcutters in 1911

Did it for the S&G of it years ago.
Unique and a 220 gr wadcutter.
Originally intended for my colt 1917.

Wouldn't feed in my Colt, Rock Island 5" or the nice Norinco.
Would kinda work in the beater Norinco.
Worked reliably enough in the Rock Island 3.5" Officers model but wouldn't group.

So I gave up and shot em through my 1917s.


Hadn't thought of those days in awhile.

I have never loaded full wadcutters for the 1911 but I know someone who did, he claimed the trick was getting the seating depth of the bullet right.

testing the gun with empty brass may be a little helpful but the wadcutter will make the loaded cartridge slightly longer (I know wadcutters do not extend much, but it makes a difference)

I would start by loading a few empty cases with just a bullet seated long and try hand cycling the slide, then just seat the bullets slightly shorter and repeat until you find the sweet spot. Just work up from a low starting power and watch for pressure signs since seating depth make a large difference on pressure.

Thanks gentlemen,... I did as stated above, but didn't get the results I wanted, so, I moved on to another project.
