I know the conventional wisdom is to only shoot cowboy loads in a converted cap and ball revolvers, and for guns like an 1860 army or 1858 new army I understand that. Was curious if this has to be followed for bigger guns? Taylor's makes conversion cylinders for Uberti versions of the dragoon and Walker; can those handle hotter loads or are they delegated to cowboy loads as well?

I'd ask the manufacturer if it were me. Just because someone's been getting away with it doesn't mean it's safe.

My first question is why would you push that envelope.
You could put a turbo on a flathead but sooner or later it's not gonna end well.
Probably could be done but my two cents says get a gun built for it.

I have Krist Cartridge Converters for my Ruger Old Army Cap and ball revolvers, I have shot standard .45 colt loads but there not that hot, the accuracy is not as good as a real .45 colt single action. Kind of a novelty/save for a rainy day kind of thing for me. They are a pain to load and unload, have to remove the cylinder from the gun for it.
