Has anyone tried this ammo ?
It is loaded by Federal Lake City with Hornady bullets.
Hornady Frontier Military Grade 5.56x45mm NATO 62 Gr SP.
I see it in both 62 and 55 grain.
I have been looking for some inexpensive 223 for varmints and I see this ammo listed for reasonable prices.
I haven't seen any bad reviews on it and would like to know if anyone has actually used it and how it performed.
Which would you prefer 55 or 62 grain. I am sure they will both kill just about any varmint we have.

I havnt tried it but know a few who have. No one complains.
Lake city had manufacturing capacity they wernt using so they looked for a partner to use their machines. I dont think you can go wrong here.

Search "Frontier 5.56 Kaboom" There are several cases of this stuff blowing up guns. I haven't delved into it as I've never looked into buying any ammo but I'd do some research first.

Check AR 15 forum, hard to believe Hornaday wouldn’t pursue it?

I read the thread about Frontier Ammo blowing up a gun on the AR forum.
It was written from a guy that said it happened to a friend of his .
Then if you keep reading on about page 5 the guy say's his friend was wrong and it wasn't Hornady Frontier.
It was some other Hornady ammo.
I have used Hornady ammo for many years and have shot 1000's of rounds of it and have never had any problems whatsoever.
I was just curios if anyone here has used this particular one and how it worked as far as accuracy goes.

One bad lot doesn't mean it's all bad. I mean no one thinks lake city ammo is junk in the least. Hornady didnt produce this ammo lake city did using components provided by Hornady.
It wont be the last time there are issues with a lot of ammo somewhere. Dismissing the entire brand seems short sighted. IMHO OFCOURSE.
Then again if your gun blows up it's a big deal. Still, I understand they replaced the ammo and guns damaged from this, in terms of being stand up they are way above other manufacturers who told folks to pound sand.

I have zero worries about it blowing my gun up.
Does anyone honestly think an ammo company like Lake City or Hornady would keep making an ammo that supposedly blows guns up ?
