I had a wholesaler quote me $57 today but, he said his shipping was going to be $30 bucks plus haz mat per 1k... So if the new normal will be $70-80. I certainly wont bother stocking or selling them in the future.

Can’t you get multiple thousands for a si gel hazmat fee?
Either way if people stop buying them the prices will eventually come down.

I don't think it's us home reloaders that are causing the drought. Ammunition companies still haven't caught up. Went to targetsportsusa recently and their shelves are still kind of bare.Joe_Blacke wrote: ↑February 16th, 2023, 7:22 pmCan’t you get multiple thousands for a si gel hazmat fee?

It supply and demand. Once demand drops and there is an oversupply, prices will come down.Boriqua wrote: ↑February 17th, 2023, 7:23 amI don't think it's us home reloaders that are causing the drought. Re: The state of primer availability - 2023
Don't forget most European manufacturers are cranking out as fast as they can to supply the consumption rate of Ukrainian forces, which is very high. The supply chain for civilian consumption comes in second. We saw this in 2003 and 2004 when the consumption rate of the Pentagon's stockpile started outstripping the replacement rate. Ammo prices doubled and tripled and didn't start correcting downward til about 2007, but never truly returned to pre-war prices. You could get bulk reloadable 5.56 for $0.13 cents per round before 9/11 and even for about a year afterward. But then it climbed to over $0.70 cents per round, and when it finally fell back down, you were lucky to find it for under $0.30 cents. Then Obama got elected and the rollercoaster continued until Trump in 2016.
History shows us that trying to wait it out til things improve takes a lot longer than anyone thinks it will, with no guarantee that once it does return to favorable level it will remain there.
The month before the pandemic hit, the general consensus was that we had at least another 8-10 months before the posturing and pontificating of the upcoming election would cause more panic buying. Prices where low and stable,...so nobody was yet in a hury to get stocked up. Then the panic caught everyone with their pants down.
Some things, regardless of cost, just can't wait, and shouldn't.

Wow. I don't know for certain but it sounds like your Wholesaler is trying to pad the order. I just bought 1000 primers from Midsouth shooting and The shipping was 11.50 and hazmat was 19.99. Still costly but it wouldn't have gone up exponentially with every additional 1000. If he is charging you 30.00 + additional hazmat Per 1000 he is just trying to pad his numbers because its not costing him that much extra in hazmat and shipping per unit.
