6.5 Grendel load

If anyone is interested. I found a great powder with a decent load for the 6.5 Grendel. I went thru a few powders and found the IMR 8208 XBR was the most consistent and accurate. I came to a load on Saturday @ 200 yards that gave me a 1"+/- group. 27.7gr with the 123gr(.264) proj. It was pretty warm still and very humid at the time. I am shooting out of a AR style rifle with a 24" Bear Creek 1:8 barrel and a Vortex 6-24x50 PST scope.
CFE223 and BLC-2 were the two least accurate powders I used. The IMR 4895 was accurate as well but the velocity just was not there.

I like 8208 XBR also. My best load is 27.6 grains of XBR and 123 grain Hornaday A-Max, AA brass and CCI small mag. primer with a 2.25 OAL. My Bartlein 18" barrel will shoot under .5" at 100 yd. all the time if I do my part.

Yeah 27.7 and .6 is basically the same load. In the thrower its going .6 to .8 with 1/2 full. I need to get an 8lb keg this week. The 1# gave me a great starting point.

Pretty much the same load. I use a Lee powder measure and it throws very consistent charges of 8208. Makes for easy loading when you can throw charges that consistent and not have to weight them. I think the S.D. the last time I check the load was 11, which is not to bad for a thrown load and just brass from my pile.

I'm going to guess you like the BCA barrel? I built a 20" Grendel on a BCA upper assembly earlier this year, haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though.

They seem to get a lot of bad hype. But, at the same rate there are a ton of guys with shooters like yours.

Yeah I like the BCA barrel. Its pretty accurate as far as I can tell. I'm able to get pretty small groups with it. I'm taking it hunting in Oct so we'll see if I can drop a deer or if i'mm gonna be walking alot.

Good luck.
I always joke that I don't really go hunting, just like to take my rifle on hiking trips...
