5.56 headstamp question

#1

Post by smithers599 »

I have what appears to be milsurp 5.56x45, packed in 300-round OD "battlepacks" (10 boxes of 30). Battlepack is labeled
300 RD
5,56X45mm
BALL M1A2
CTN
611 A 83

Headstamp is 83 at 12 o'clock, 12 at 6 o'clock.

What is it? South African?

It is South African equivalent of M193 ball, PMP manufacturer. It's possible it could have been made in Israel by IMI since the South Africans buy/have produced a lot of ammo from Israel.
Good stuff either way.

Thanks! Any idea what the numbers 83 and 12 signify? Made in 1983? Made in 1912?
