Seems to me it would be easier going the Berdan route since the anvil is in the case rather than the primer.

True, but depriming becomes a royal pain.

Not really, there's a decapping tool that works like a bottle opener to pop the old primer out.

I’ve deprimed berdan cases using water, and a tight fitting punch in the case neck. A quick hit, and the water would eject the spent primer. Granted, this was years ago when berdan primers were on the market. It made shooting and loading the Russians with cast bullets cheap shooting.
I just picked up 300 berdan primed cases in 7.62x54R for $25.00. The seller pulled the bullets for another use. I’ll load them with 16 grs of 2400, and seat a cast Lee 312-155 bullet.
