You can't reliably substitute large rifle for large pistol like you can small rifle for small pistol. The height of large rifle primers are taller than large pistol. Small rifle and small pistol are the same height.Old Jeff H wrote: ↑November 9th, 2020, 9:58 am Interesting topic. I don't have any Large Pistol Magnum primers and I'm getting ready to start loading 44 Mag. Think I'm okay using Large Rifle, and if so, should I use Magnum or regular?

As Jack said, you can't substitute LRP for LPP because of the height problem.
In a revolver, the primers will tend to hang up as the cylinder is turned.

I wouldn't make that change the intensity of the flash from the LRP is greater than LPP and will most probably raise pressures. If you are intending to do so I'd start at reduced loads and watch for high pressure signs.Old Jeff H wrote: ↑November 9th, 2020, 9:58 am Interesting topic. Re: Substituting rifle primers for pistol primers
NO !!! There is a dimensional difference in the large primers. The large rifle primers are taller than large pistol. I think the difference is about .008". You can only interchange small primers.Old Jeff H wrote: ↑November 9th, 2020, 9:58 am Interesting topic. I don't have any Large Pistol Magnum primers and I'm getting ready to start loading 44 Mag.
