"mid-range" .44 Magnum?

#1

Post by smithers599 »

Recently, I discovered the Remington Golden Sabre .357 Magnum is a "mid-range" load, about 1200fps vs. 1400 for "normal" .357 -- but still well above .38 Special +P velocities.

Is there a similar FACTORY "mid-range" load for .44 Magnum -- hotter than .44 Special, but softer than full-charge loads?

Thanks.

(I don't reload. I am not going to reload. I don't expect that information to stop people from saying "You should reload" or "You are a fool if you don't reload." They can't help themselves.)

I don't know much about 44 mag, but you are correct about the above.

That's a pretty standard 44 mag load from a mainline manufacturer and actually a little faster than the Federal and Winchester offerings. Odds are if you like 157gr at 1200 fps, you're not going to like 240gr at 1200 fps. I think I'd pick some Win/Fed loads up from Wally World before you go off and order a bunch of that stuff.

1,200 fps for a 240 grain bullet in a .44 magnum is mid range. Hot is 1,400~1,500 fps. That's what I normally shoot but I load them at 1,100~1,200 for Mrs. Flash to shoot.

Well, I just ordered 4 boxes (200 rounds) from Bud's Gun Shop (best price according to ammoseek.com). So, I will soon find out for myself!

Thanks again. I do appreciate it.

Hopefully it works out. If you're just looking for standard velocity 44 mag, there are plenty of options out there.
