I built an AR pistol thinking I'd form 1 it into an SBR, but now I'm wondering if it's worth doing?

Anyone who has both have an opinion? Is the SBR better than the pistol enough to justify the stamp and additional regulation?

I have both and it's better to sbr so you can shoulder the rifle instead of resting it on your cheek. That's the only advantage for me.

That being said the $200 isn't much. The waiting period is what bites. If you don't mind waiting then do it. You will probably spend just as much on a pistol brace.

Waiting isn't even that big a deal anymore when you can slap a KAK or something on it for $50 and shoot it while you wait.

I have a couple pistols as well as SBR's and prefer having regular stocks on things so will likely submit the F1's for them early next year. I think most of the braces are pretty ugly so for me it's an aesthetic thing as well as just being able to put whatever stock on what on something and not be limited. Most of the braces either aren't as solid, comfortable, and aren't adjustable.

Edit: The SBA3 looks interesting and I think it's one of the better choices out there right now besides the Tailhook if you aren't looking to go CQB style.

Thanks guys. I'll probably do at least one form 1, and that way I can rotate between the pistols and the rifle.

I agree on the SA3. I plan to add one to an AR pistol for future road trips across state lines where I will likely bring it rather than an SBR because of legality in different states.

My preference is still an SBR so I can swap stocks as I see something that better suits my use.

I have both pistols and SBRs... I much prefer the SBR.

I can see the plus and negative to both option. If you just want nothing to do with NFA then go the pistol route. If you want atleast 1 lower that u can put all the SBR uppers you want on it, then pay the $200 and wait the few months.

Me personally, I already had a few NFA items prior to 41P. Once I heard 41P was going into effect, I did the "sbr everything" bit. Specially since e-file was a thing and super easy to do. Now I'm sitting on 8 sbr ar15 lowers.... 4 just sitting in the safe, still stripped.

It's worth it to me. Every AR I have in use is a registered SBR. That way, I don't have to worry about what upper goes on what gun (since with a "pistol" lower, you can't put a forward grip on the upper).
I'm also mindful of the possibility that eventually, some dingleberry will do something heinous with a "pistol" lower, and the "braces" will go the way of bump fire stocks.
