What is the best ammo/choke combination for sporting clays?

½It depends. If you're talking a single barrel gun, pump or semiauto, probably modified choke and 7-½ shot.

If you shoot an O/U as I do, then you have 2 chokes and I use Modified/Full. Why? Because there are some very long shots at the place I go to for Sporting Clays and the full choke works better for me at distances over 60 yards. When both presentations are closer, I use the same chokes but spreaders in one or both barrels.

I am using a o/u. What FPS ammo are you running?

The spreaders are 1,150 fps, the regular loads are 1,200 fps.

Velocity drops off rapidly with round shot and in all the years I've competed in Trap and shot Sporting Clays I've never seen enough difference to load faster velocities.

I concur...if that matters :)

Are we talking 5-Stand, or "golf in the woods" walking set up? Distances can vary greatly between the 2.

The OP said Sporting Clays and so that's what I was talking about.

I use skeet in both barrels to hunt everything.
