help identify an antique shotgun

While on vacation, a friend showed me this piece that's been in his family for quite a while. No one has any info on it, no manufacturer's marks are present (other than what appears to be a serial number?). It still had a fired brass shotshell in the chamber when I opened it...lol. It's been repaired quite a few times and I think a new trigger guard was fashioned. It's got a hinged breach with an angled, spring-loaded firing pin that the external hammer strikes.

That's his kitchen table; riveted sheets of stainless (aluminum? can't remember). It was the "manliest" kitchen table he could find...lol.
