Black powder muzzleloading shotgun experience?

Well it's actually a blunderbuss but same concept. Anyone have experience with muzzle-loading BP shotguns?

The gun I just bought came with some basic info on max load of BP and max weight of shot, but is a little lax on information on wadding and loading procedures.

you can probably find some youtube vids, capandball has been hunting with a shotgun lately...

I had a pedersoli SxS 25+ years ago, I sold it to fund other things, and on the rare occasions every decade or so when I get interested in shotgunning I wish I still had it. So I started searching again... sold out everywhere.... I'll wait till the next container from Italy comes in.

3 drams of FFg or Fg, an over-powder wad, a cushion wad, 1 oz of shot, an over-shot wad, prime... bird - butt - body - beak - bang.

the cushion wad is about 1/2" thick, the others are like simple cardboard.

make sure the charge is tamped down with no air gaps.

wads:

if you look at a box of modern shells, it might say "3 dram eq", that is the smokeless equivalent of 3 drams of black powder or something like that. a dram is 27 gr, so that's about 80 gr.

CHECK THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR RECOMMENDED OR MAX CHARGE!!!!

shoot good

Its fun.
And easier than loading up a proper rifle. Especially if you get an Italian 12 ga magnum with chromed bores.

90gr 2Fg, over powder wad, cushion, .710 tight patched round ball equal a poor man's double rifle.

I've been thinking about building one of those traditions blunderbuss kits. Looks like it'd be fun.
