Canik - a Turkish word that means "like Glock, maybe better".

OK, I threw that title out there to generate some discussion.

I had a chance to handle and shoot a Canik TP9SF Elite "titanium" the other day.

I was very favorably impressed!

any of you all have any experience? is it a "Turkish Delight" or a "Turkish Turd"?

While my personal philosophy is that there have been no advances in handgun technology since 1911..... Glock defined "striker fired", and the Glock 19 is about the best of the bunch.... but this Canik felt and shot really just as good! Maybe better....

By the way, in my limited knowledge of Turkish, "c" (with no squiggle on the bottom) is pronounced like our "j", and "i" with a dot is more like "ee" so its sortuv pronounced "Jahneek".... near as I can tell.

They work fine but mechanics aside, I would rather keep my money out of the hands of enemy states (my opinion). Turkey can F itself. So can POF (Pakistan).

I have several of the caniks, and they do as intended, as long as one does their part, very functional, runs everything i've attempted to put thru them, and accurate beyond my skill at times.

I had the T100. Not a poly like your inquiring about but was a CZ clone in the family of say the p01 in that it was aluminum frame with steel slide. I also had several CZ's. Honestly ... everything about the Turk gun was just a touch more refined. Machining, fit and trigger were all better.

It was right around $400 all in. Nice gun that is supported by Cajun gun works. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Canik

They are a nice gun, with a better trigger than a glock. My brother in law has the sfx with 10k through it still going strong.

One of my neighbors had a Canik and he went shooting with us before the fire restrictions kicked in. I'm usually rather leery of off brand guns but I was actually surprised that it was a pretty good shooter with a decent trigger. After inspecting his Canik and shooting it a bit I was impressed with the ergonomics as well.

I wouldn't be replacing my Glocks with them as it has the same concern of any new weapons platform. That is, after accumulating so many cheap Glock mags over the years it just doesn't make good economic sense to replace the Glocks. But for someone starting out or starting over it would be something to consider.

Politics aside. The Canik pistol is a very good product.

Do the Caniks have a chamber similar to Glock? I am not very knowledgeable on the subject. Someone mentioned Glocks have a unsupported chamber for reliability as the reason why they fire just about any type of ammo so well.
