You have never used a holster with a thumb strap?

For CCW? Never needed it. I use high quality holster like Milt sparks or 5 shot leather. Paired with a high quality belt, the gun is extremely well retained. It’s extremely difficult for anyone but the wearer to extract the gun.

Well, I'm not talking about the need of a trigger lock to prevent someone from extracting the weapon, I don't have many doubts about my situational awareness,... I primarily was thinking more along the line of getting in an unexpected situation, knocking the gun lose from impact with an object, a wall, a tree, the ground,... or, maybe a spontaneous evasive action.

When I carry a gun I use either Galco or High Noon.
You can't go wrong with either one.
If I am around town I use an open top holster.
If I am out in the wild I use a thumb strap holster.

Many, many years ago, I had an open top fail to retain my weapon, when out in the back country due to an awkward dismount in a tight situation. I went to a thumb strap after that, but, even it eventually failed. It took a few years, but, eventually it also unsnapped without purposely doing so.

Now, I am hoping a locking trigger will do the trick, for my new 1911,... anyone with a bad experience. Anyone ever hear, or, know of a holster trigger lock malfunction?

That's right. Long live navy. Other than for para and rock island the 1911 was a single stack mag. What the hell are you going to do with that? Carry 20 to 30 mags with you. WTF.

You could try to aim. Just a thought.

Funny I've owned several brands of wide body 1911s. And none were Para or Rock Island.

Infact one of these bastards has my Nelson Ford Springfield and has never given me a chance to get it back.

You guys kill me. How many 2 way ranges have you been on? When you go a mission what you carry and how much can hinder you. If you are shooting and have to change out mags a lot that's a problem. ALL OF YOU ON HERE train for gun range bad guys. 1 paper silhouette and 50 rounds for the day and your done. Not in my average day. Even on the streets where you might have to use what you know you think bad guys run in singles. They come in 2's ,3's and maybe more. All I hear about is range shooting. No defensive shoot at all. You guys crack me up. Shoot, move and communicate. That's what should be present in all of you with military back grounds.
