looking at 1911s, how are the Rock Island Tac Ultra HC FS?

I dont know s*** about s*** about 1911s but while I was at my LGS fondling h&ks, we got onto the topic of 1911s and he showed me the above 1911 as well as a Springfield 1911 (dont remember the model but it was a full size).

Anywho, I really liked the Rock Island grip as it was much fatter than a normal 1911. That was always my complaint about 1911s and also why I love my HK's. I know most 1911 "purists" dont like the double stack thing. But for a stickly range gun, It has me looking at them. Shop had them for $700 in either 9mm or 45 (I was looking at the 9mm).

1911s have a great grip angle. If Dbl stack fits your claws great. They work for me so I don't care which purists gripe.

I like Rockys. They're made well and run well. I'm toying with a 10mm 1911 Dbl stack Rocky.

Ive had a few people mention 10mm. my only issue is i had a G20 back in the early 2000s and i could find unicorns b4 i found ammo for it. ended up selling it a few years later. now that 10mm is coming back, part of me is looking at it cause now i reload, but the other (bigger) part of me is saying "NO!! RUN AWAY!!" cause i got bit once. that and i already have/reload for 45 acp, so now id have to do another caliber.

Ah, Rock Island Armory (Arms Corp)...the Wilson Combat of the Philippines. I have been impressed their build quality, they make a nice 1911.

I have just about all of them from first entry to the new super duper tac models, i'm a fan, they do their job if i do mine, only issue i have ever had is some of the first offerings mags, didn't always work as proposed, so aftermarkets did just fine.

I like just about any 1911, something about the work horse that just appeals to me.
good luck with a choice

My 3.5" 45acp, 5" full-size 45 (sold to a friend who wanted it more than I did), 5" 38super have all been reliable.
Only problems I've had were with a 45 wide mouth HP that wouldn't feed (reloads).
38super occasionally won't lock open (mag problem).

Are these 1911s considered low-end or middle-end?

been shooting all the platforms since they came out way back, early on was issue of mags, but aftermarket and that problem went away, carried their micro for a few years, but migrated to a lighter platform for some days
