H&K USP opinions

#1

Post by Ballistic Therapy »

I was wondering what peoples opinion on the H&K USP tactical 9mm was.
I was looking at these and would like to see what the general all around consensus was.

Great guns. Overpriced, but so is everything H&K. Depends on your expectations/needs.

The Thread pitch is metric, so be careful when ordering suppressor adapters (M13.5x1 LH vs US Standard 1/2x28)

You need to have big hands, the grip is larger than most current gen handguns, i.e. not "ergonomic".

No standard picatinny rail for mounting lights...keep that in mind when thinking about future accessories.

If you do add a light, holster w/light combo can be slightly difficult.

Magazines are expensive, $45 is the common price.

Trigger isn't the greatest...and expensive to upgrade, and you better like dealing with little springs.

Part availability...you can't walk into a gun shop expecting to find a part you need, unlike a Glock.

HK USP hand guns are great. Expensive. You could pick up a used glock buy after market stuff and have a hammer for almost the same price as a new hk pistol.

I found a used one that looks new with 3 magazines.
What would be a decent price to offer for it ?

I would go with the USP Compact Tactical if you have smaller to medium size hands.

The vast majority of my handgun collection is H&K, the rest are Sigs and one Beretta... To echo much of what the others have said, the USP Tacticals are good guns. However, they are tanks and depending on your hand size, may not be the most comfortable guns to shoot/grip. When it comes to the USPs, I prefer the compact models as they feel better in my hand. Overall, when it comes to H&K handguns my preference is much more towards my P2000 V3 full-size and SK, HK45CT (w/ light LEM... V1 I basically converted to V7), and P30L V3 (w/out safety lever). Keep in mind that parts will be harder to find and more expensive than other brands/models (Glock). When you find a good deal on parts, stock up. As stated, H&K magazines are also more expensive than some others.

Love me some USP. I resisted them for 23 years, now I own 12 of them.
