Then just hold tight to reduce muzzle rise.

Looks like a KAK flash can. Is it any better?
Noveske flaming pig is made out of steel, and it aids in cycling with shorter barrels due to providing a little bit of back pressure when firing.
Good to know thank you!

I use the pig on my 5.5 fun switch lower which needs the blast tamed and worth the higher cost. Has an inner like baffle and acts as a flash suppressor. The KAK is single piece unit and I find it does a nominal job for the cost directing muzzle blast from the shooter on 10.5" and up barrels. Personal choice I cannot justify the cost of a pig on all my short ar's except for ones I shoot alot. Bought 3 pig's over 10 years ago on special and I expect now lots of others do same job.

Good to know! I have an 11.5 inch upper and I think I have an extra KAK somewhere so I might just try that out first.

Also found this, might be better than a KAK for muzzle flash.

Natchez.com has a muzzle brake in their AR parts for less than $20. I use similar ones for the same price range with good results.
Ultimate Reloaders on you tube has an interesting video on the testing of brakes with different outlet sized diameters. He is also an engineer so built the testing equipment. Seems the diameter of the hole has a very little effect on the recoil dampening.
