Gents, I would appreciate your help.

My father is 90 or 91, something like that, and still shoots with me sometimes. He cannot rack a slide on most traditional pistols. I got him a S&W Shield EZ and he is able to handle that one just fine and loves the pistol.

The problem is (like was brought up in Clyde's grip safety thread) that grip safety makes that gun unreliable. I've shot 1911 for 50+ years now and never once had the grip safety cause a problem, but you have to be unnaturally high with the grip to get it to disengage on this shield EZ. I've read this is a common problem.

Walther has a CCP M2 that uses a gas piston system instead of direct blowback, so the spring is much lighter and I have read that it is similar to the Shield EZ.

Does anyone have any other (9mm) suggestions? Has anyone tested out or own a CCP M2?

I would deeply appreciate any insights or suggestions from firsthand knowledge.

I got one for the wife. She loved the overall feel that shields have. She struggled with it. We took it out on several outtings and practiced with hundreds of rounds. Not engaging the saftey or over compensation of grip causing low shots. She never got comfortable/relaxed with it to be able to draw on a target from holster or maintain regular accuracy. She went back to her old Bersa which is a tad smaller, lighter and, DA/SA. The fairly light slide compared to most could be because we have the bersa well broken in.

We still have the ezshield and I will try the trick in the video. She was extremely frustrated with the ezshield and may take me a bit to convince her the try it again.

Glock w an RMR.

It’s pricy but I have zero hesitation slamming it into my workbench to prove a point.

I can rack mine off the edge of a table or it gives a VERY large place to grab. Not sure how older eyes pick up the dot.

In fact I deliberately went for this setup for worst case scenario. Easy to rack was high on the list.

The wife had the CCP M2. The grip felt great in the hand and yes it was easy to rack. She ended up getting rid of it though because the trigger was horrible. I really wanted to like that gun because it felt good.

If he can't see thr red dot you can add something like this?

Never handled one, but the fact that the safely pivots opposite to a 1911 is clear. The top has to be engaged and might be missed. The 1911 you would have to work to miss the safety and hold the grip.
Easy to see how with the old masterpiece you never hear about missing the grip safety and this one apparently does have that issue.

Hi Gatsby, I've had the CCP in both 380 and 9 flavorings.
Yes, the easy to rack is legit. However, I think the 9mm
would be too much recoil impulse for his comfort.

Triggers are not horrible, IMHO...just unique, LOL. Have
you ever handled a Kahr DAO pistol? It's quite similar to that.
Though it is a striker gun, the trigger is a longer, near DAO
style of pull. Quite light, but not like today's typical striker
designs.

Field-stripping, even on the 'improved' M2, is still quite the
exercise. Though, I suspect you'd take care of that for him, LOL.
I was NOT at all pleased with accuracy on either one. Past 15yds,
you'd get patterns more than groups. Similar problem I had with
Ruger's Security 9 pistol (tried 3 of 'em!).

Lastly, the CCP has a 1911 style thumb-safety, IF you wish to use it.
Darn near a 45-degree arc on that lever, too. Very positive if you
want to mess with it. Not in the way if you don't.

I agree with a revolver or at least looking at one. I guess you could also look into the Ruger Security 380. Personally, I am not a fan of the S&W grip safety on the EZ and the Equalizer. It is cumbersome and unnecessary.
