Owning and carrying a firearm is a right, not a privilege and comes with a responsibility. Good for you asking questions and preparing yourself.

JM custom makes great carry holsters:

I have one of these for my Shield+

I've heard about the Shield Plus mentioned a couple times, so I'll definitely be checking that one out. C2 shooting range has a ton of rentals, perhaps I can give it a spin there.

Thank you for the recommendations!

deciding on a carry is a lot like buying new boots, won't know till you walk a mile or two, set a time or two, or have to put the trot on a time or two, to see what hangs.
just saying it aint about beauty and size.

happy days

Now if you could only own one gun .... well we can all agree it would have to be a 1911 :D

When I am with my family, this is what I am carrying in a Kramer scabbard holster.

Are you talking about the gun or the person carrying it ?

Welcome to the Brotherhood of Gun Carriers.
Like most people, you are most concerned about which gun to carry, which is the least important factor in surviving a violent assault. Your SIG is as good as any, so enjoy it. It'll do just fine. But understand, gunfighting is more about software than hardware.

Start with Jeff Cooper's Principles of Personal Defense. (Available free online on pdf.)

Read Massad Ayoob. Read John Farnam. Read Tom Givens. Here's an example.

And carry always, always, always.

P365XL is my normal primary, with the regular 365 in .380 as a bug, or dog-walking option.

Thank you everyone for the responses! You all have been super informative and helpful. I will be testing out a M&P Shield and a couple glocks soon at the range. I'll report back when I've made my choice!

I've yet to shoot one of these puppies. A traditional 1911 is .45 caliber, right? I seem to recall some company that custom builds 1911's that shoot 9mm... I guess for the cartridge savings?

1911's typically are .45ACP, but available in other calibers.
Shooting a full sized steel 1911 in 9mm is a hoot, almost no recoil.

The P365XL is the best sub compact pistol I have fired. I really like it. I would suggest a Kramer scabbard holster in horsehide. It's one of the most comfortable holsters you can find and horsehide will outlast you.

If you get the standard P365, you can use the 12rd mag with sleeves to make it the same size as an X frame. You can use the standard 10rd mags if you want to pocket carry the P365.

I have a Kahr PM-9 that I pocket carried for years. The Sig P365 is the same size and holds twice as much ammo. So it will most likely replace my Kahr, but I need to take it to the range a few times before I feel 100% confident in it.

To the OP, what did you end up getting? If you haven't made the purchase yet, my .02 is there's no reason to get the 365X over the 365XL. P365XL and P365X have the same length grip, and IMO the longer slide/barrel of the XL carries better IWB not to mention the better terminal ballistics of the longer barreled XL.

Crippledtrigger wrote: July 3rd, 2022, 3:43 am Try, at the range as suggested, the shield plus. Infact even the M&P 2.o isnt too big but the Shield plus is small and you get 13+1 rounds. I carry an extra 13 round mag. They come with a 13 and 10 round mag which makes the grip a bit shorter. I think you will find it's one of the easier mini 9s to shoot.

M&P is what Glock would be if it was true perfection. Just messin with the Glock folks.
Add another to the Shield +, best trigger of all the tiny 9mms I finger banged before deciding, and all pretty similar in cost. Ruger, Hellcat, Sig, none of them had the same crisp feel and break as the Shield. I did like the Ruger over the other two. Mind you, I'm a Glockaholic, and I have two G43s I carried until I found the Shield.

Have a great, gun carryin', Kenpo day

Clyde
I've only tried the SW Performance Center Shield Plus, and I agree the trigger is a step above, however I just don't like the feel of the grip.
