Finally shot my .460!

#1

Post by paulgt2164 »

Quick little video, finally got out to shoot my 3" .460.

Recoil was brisk, but manageable and not too horrible. I guess it was a good test to see if my carpal tunnel repairs a few years back were done right. Next up will be my S&W 329PD. Lol.

Ammo was Grizzly 360 grain hard cast that is rated at ~2700 ft/lbs.

Is that Smith from another dimension or something? What's with it making a pre-blast whooshing sound right before the round actually goes off?

If you read the notes on the youtube page, they had audio issues which were fixed in post,...and that apparently created the pre-boom jetwash.

It was stupidly windy that day, so my buddy with the cameras and drones did his best to clean it up

I'm a fan. Smoother that the 500. I love the 460. Always fun to bring it out and see who will and won't shoot it.

hand cannons, one ugly experience with a 500 s&w cured me of wanting one, Azhighcountries 500 fubared my right wrist for well over a year, only good thing out of that was, i learned to shoot quite well left handed, not as good as the righty, but good enough i was comfortable enough to deploy unit if needed.
whew, sure had to be fun till the second shot, jmo now
thanks for video, a great reminder of nope, not for me

I used to have the 3" 500 - and wish I still had it. Probably will pick another up just to "have the set."

I think the .500S&W and .460 are awesome carbine cartridges. But handguns? Uh, for 7 foot tall body builders, maybe.

Eh, I am not a big guy by any stretch (180lbs 6'2) and the 460 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I still don't see how Scott @ Kentucky Ballistics one hands both the 460 and 500 at the same time in one of his videos though lol

I'm talking about controlability. Yes, the .500S&W would be awesome against a bear attack, but you're only gonna connect once, because trying to do an El Presidente' with that thing ain't gonna happen. I'd rather have something I'm a bit more likely to be able to quickly empty all rounds accurately into that bear,...at a distance,...BEFORE he's on top of me. Something like a .454Casul or .480Ruger. Or heck, even a measly little .44 mag?

Well I didn't buy the gun for bears - as they are a wee bit rare in these parts - unless you are talking about large, fuzzy homosexual (those are more common, as I learned when two hit on my at the local First Watch.) It was bought as a fun gun, with no real purpose other than the laughs. To be honest it is "better" to shoot than my 329PD 44 mag from an "ouch" standpoint. We will see if this remains true since I swapped grips on the 329PD to the same ones as what is on the 460.

However if I were to be in bear / velociraptor / WWE superstar / rabid nuclear sized chinchilla country I wouldn't have issues with carrying the .460 - and it can also fire 45LC or 454C so I could pick and choose. However next time I take it out, I will bring my 329PD - and I will get video of how fast I can hit my 10" gong at a reasonable "oh s***" distance to see if your concerns are valid, for science and all. The biggest detractor for carrying the 460 is it's weight and size. It is the chonkiest pistol in the safe.

I don't consider wrist-snapping to be "fun", but ok, whatever bakes your cookies.

I do like your science idea, however. I'm interested in seeing that.
